The Trusted Solution For Your Project
At Mumford & Wood, we specialise in Heritage Windows and Doors that seamlessly blend traditional aesthetics with the technical performance demanded by today's standards.
Our Heritage range is meticulously designed to reflect the architectural character of period properties, using authentic detailing to meet the requirements of both conservation officers and planning departments. The quality of our Heritage range offers period-appropriate profiles, slim glazing bars, traditional mouldings, and putty glazing and replacing ‘like for like’ where required.
We also offer full design flexibility, customisation of glazing styles, paint or stain finishes, and premium ironmongery, all designed to complement the history of a heritage property.

Navigating Heritage Challenges with Confidence
Preserving Historic Character
One of the biggest challenges in heritage restoration is retaining the architectural detail and proportions that define the building's original design. Standard off-the-shelf products simply won't suffice.
Every wooden window and door we produce is made to order, using traditional joinery techniques, authentic mouldings, and heritage glazing bars. Whether replicating Georgian, Victorian, or Edwardian profiles, we ensure an exact visual match that satisfies even the most stringent conservation requirements.
Planning Restrictions and Conservation Approval
Heritage and listed buildings are protected by planning legislation, meaning any upgrades must be approved by conservation officers.
With decades of experience in the heritage sector, we provide tailored support with drawings, technical data, and sample sections to assist with listed building consent and planning submissions.

Timber Window Styles for Heritage Properties
Box Sash Windows
Heritage Box Sash windows are ideal windows for listed buildings, particularly where double glazing is not permitted. Traditionally single glazed using putty and true glazing bars, they replicate original detailing found in historic properties. Available with a range of glazing bar profiles, including Gothic, Victorian, Lamb's Tongue and Queen Anne Ovolo.
Casement Windows
Heritage Casement windows are expertly crafted to mirror original timber designs in listed buildings and conservation zones. Like our Sash windows, they are single glazed using traditional putty and true glazing bars, available in a variety of authentic profiles to suit the era of your property. Ideal for heritage restorations where compliance with modern building regulations is not required.

Heritage Doors for Sensitive Restorations
French, Single & Balcony Doors
Designed to match historic timber doors, our Heritage French, Single, and Balcony Doors offer authentic style and craftsmanship. Made using traditional methods with putty-glazed single panes and period-correct glazing bars, these doors are ideal for sensitive restorations. All doors are factory primed and are fully finished in our water-based, spray-applied microporous system for lasting protection and elegance.

Bespoke Timber Solutions
Heritage & Listed Building Planning Requirements
Replacing windows or doors in a listed building or conservation area requires careful consideration. Many heritage properties are protected by Listed Building Consent or Article 4 Directions, restricting alterations that could affect the character of the property.
In most cases:
- Listed buildings require Listed Building Consent for replacement windows and doors.
- Conservation area properties may require planning permission under Article 4 restrictions.
- Like-for-like timber replacements are often preferred by conservation officers.
- Modern materials such as uPVC are frequently refused in sensitive heritage settings.
Mumford & Wood works closely with build professionals,, architects and conservation professionals to deliver compliant heritage glazing solutions that preserve original character while improving thermal performance and security.
