Set in a sought-after Surrey town, this elegant new build is the result of one homeowner’s determination to create her dream home, inspired by the charm and symmetry of Georgian architecture.

“I know it might sound sad, but I truly love these windows!”
The Project
Set in a sought-after Surrey town, this elegant new build is the result of one homeowner’s determination to create her dream home, inspired by the charm and symmetry of Georgian architecture. The original 1970s bungalow was cleared to make way for a beautifully proportioned property that blends classic design with 21st-century performance.
“I’ve always been inspired by shows like Grand Designs,” Mrs Anderson explains. “They gave me the confidence to take on a self-build project and the vision to know exactly what I wanted.”
Working closely with her architect, Mrs Anderson created detailed plans for a layout that would optimise light and flow. Key to this was a clear line of sight from the front of the home to the rear, centred around an internal courtyard hallway and a striking entrance framed by stone pillars.
“I visited countless exhibitions and spoke to many suppliers about every aspect of the build. When it came to the windows, it was clear that Mumford & Wood offered exactly the quality and attention to detail I was looking for.”
The decision was made to specify a full suite of traditional timber sash windows and handcrafted doors from Mumford & Wood.
