Our Sustainability Initiative
Sustainable Manufacturing in Timber Windows and Doors
At Mumford & Wood, sustainability is fully integrated into every aspect of our window and door manufacturing. The environmental performance of our products begins with the materials we source and extends through production, energy use, waste handling, and carbon management.
Responsible Sourcing with FSC® Chain of Custody
Our engineered sections are manufactured at source. Material unsuitable for lamination is retained and recycled locally, which eliminates unnecessary transport of unusable mass and improves the overall carbon profile of our supply chain. Independent testing confirms that our laminated components deliver up to 60% greater strength than comparable solid timber. All timber used is FSC® certified (Licence FSC-C110183) and specified under a full Chain of Custody system.

Energy Efficiency Through On-Site Generation and Monitoring
In production, we manage resources with efficiency and long-term impact in mind. Power consumption is reduced through a combination of low-energy LED lighting, voltage optimisation systems, and an on-site solar array comprising 423 panels. These generate over 188,000 kWh of renewable energy annually. Where surplus energy exists, it is returned to the local grid. All energy inputs are continuously monitored to ensure operational efficiency.
Circular Material Use and Low-Waste Processes
Timber waste is diverted from landfill through multiple reuse channels. Offcuts are provided to community workshops where they support skill-building initiatives, while sawdust is collected and repurposed into biomass fuels or agricultural bedding through external partners. Cleaning systems for coatings and finishing operate on a closed-loop process that filters and recycles cleaning liquids on-site. This significantly reduces solvent waste and water consumption. Packaging is standardised around recyclable or reusable components such as pallets and returnable stillages, minimising the use of disposable materials.

Low-Emission Logistics and Sustainable Travel Practices
Logistics are structured to reduce transport emissions. All customer-facing field staff operate low-emission hybrid or electric vehicles. The vehicle fleet is monitored for fuel efficiency, and emissions reductions are verified annually. We actively support low-carbon commuting options among employees through schemes such as Cycle to Work.
Verified Carbon Offsetting and Environmental Accountability
Our approach to carbon management includes verified third-party offsetting. We maintain Carbon Neutral status through carbon offset schemes that exceed our annual emissions. Offsetting projects are selected for high-certainty outcomes and traceability, and include wind power generation and biodiversity-focused tree planting initiatives. Total emissions are measured and reported in accordance with internationally recognised protocols.

Supporting Sustainable Specification and Building Performance
Every Mumford & Wood product is manufactured within a certified sustainability framework that supports specification in low-carbon, high-performance building projects. Our processes, materials, and environmental outcomes are aligned with the expectations of architects, conservation officers, and sustainable construction professionals.
